Five Indispensable Essentials for Women in Midlife

(Last Updated On: August 17, 2019)

There is a saying that ‘getting older is not for the faint of heart’. I can relate to that as it pertains to the changes my body is going through. It does things I don’t want it to do, and refuses to cooperate when I fully expect it to do my bidding. What’s up with that?

Overall I have absolutely no complaints. My life is abundant and I have enjoyed good health, so I keep these annoyances in perspective. For me, living a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, has helped me to stay active and feeling pretty doggone good.

All that said, there are a few essentials that I have found to be indispensable as I travel through midlife, and I think they’re the best health and beauty products around. A couple of them are a wee bit personal, but are worth sharing. Maybe these items will be helpful to you, too.

5 Indispensable Essentials for Women in Midlife. Don't leave home without them 🙂 Click To Tweet

Yep. I’m going to talk about it…leak proof underwear and why we need it….here goes.

There are some things that we just don’t talk about with everyone, and one of those topics as women in midlife is that annoying but uncontrollable little tinkle in our panties that occurs at the most inopportune times. Most of you know exactly what I am referring to. If you don’t, that’s awesome, and frankly I’m a bit jealous. But for the rest, read on.

We experience these little annoyances at different times. For me, it’s just after I take a potty break. It’s just a little tinkle in the panties. Not much, but enough to be really, really annoying.

Other women may have a more, shall we say, enthusiastic emitting of the tinkle, at other really annoying and inopportune times. Seriously, is there ever a good time?

I’ve experimented with several different brands of leak proof underwear. And of course, there’s always the little throw away pads that come in a zillion different sizes and absorbencies. But when we use them, we’re contributing to the mass of garbage that is thrown into landfills. I’m trying to avoid that whenever possible.

What I found to be the best, hands down, are Icon Undies. I bought 4 pair about 1 1/2 years ago and have been wearing them regularly ever since. They are very comfortable to wear, stylish (as panties go), the protection is discreetly constructed (they use the magic wicking material that absorbs and dries really quickly), and they wash up really well. I always wash on the delicate cycle/cold wash and dry with the least amount of heat, so that has helped them retain their construction and magic ability to make the tinkle disappear 🙂

A few months ago I decided to give another brand of leak proof underwear a try, and purchased one pair. Similar in cost to Icon Undies, I was quite disappointed in the look and the feel of them, both in the cut and the material. They remain in the underwear drawer, unused and unwanted.

Since my original purchase, Icon has expanded their product line in both colors offered and cut of the panty. The newest is style is the French Cut. These are on my shopping list 🙂

Cool Jams Pajamas Wicking Sleepwear

Do you find yourself getting a little sweaty sometimes, particularly at night when you’re trying to sleep? Even if menopause is behind you, there is still the tendency to have warm moments throughout the day and night…I prefer to think of it as ‘glowing’. But no matter what you call it, sleep can be hard to come by when you’re overly warm.

My go-to PJ’s to minimize this issue are Cool Jams. The fabric used for these jammies is very similar to the wicking material in the undies mentioned above. It magically absorbs the sweat and moves it to top of the fabric, then dries very quickly.

I like the tank top/capri pant set that you see here…it’s my style. There are many other styles and colors available for both men and women. It might be worth a look. Check out what Cool Jams has to offer, and stay cooler at night.

5 indispensable essentials for women in midlife

Next on the list of indispensable essentials for women in midlife, at least for this girl in midlife, is a highly effective face moisturizer. In fact, a moisturizer that works a bit of magic when it comes to smoothing and tightening the pesky lines and wrinkles.

I’m a huge fan of the natural face lift, and if you read my blog you’re probably familiar with Facial Magic. The results I’ve experienced are pretty amazing.

I want to apply a product that will  keep the results of that program as fresh and youthful as possible, so I’ve been on a quest of sorts to find the best moisturizer…over the counter, online…been there, done that.

I purchased a product about a year ago, used it for awhile and really liked it, but then decided to try some others to see how they would compare. They didn’t. I returned to Dr. Perricone MD High Potency Amine Face Lift. It is the best product I have found to keep my face looking youthful.

If you follow the link above you’ll see that there a many other products offered on the site. I can’t speak for them all, but I know that using a small amount of the High Potency Amine Face Lift in the morning and evening is awesome. It may seem pricey at $90 (current cost), but my 2 oz. bottle lasts almost 3 months. It’s the best, and definitely on my list of the top 5 products to beat the midlife blues!

One of the most annoying signs of aging for me are the aches and joint pain that occur as we get older. I have very little to complain about in this arena, but when my neck and back are stiff and ache, or my wrist gets very tired and sore after a day at the computer, my go-to pain reliever is Salonpas. I was provided with a sample package of these topical analgesic products, and am so pleased with how quickly the pain and ache is relieved.

I’ve not had an opportunity to try all of the products sent to me yet, but I can tell you that any type of joint pain is covered, with everything from the Salonpas Lidocaine Plus Pain Relieving Cream to the Gel-Patch, to the Jet Spray. There is even a Salonpas Pain Relieving Gel-Patch Hot.

If you’d like to try this product, there may be a free sample available of the Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch. Quantities are limited, so go to www.salonpassamples.com now and register for yours 🙂

My list of indispensable essentials wouldn’t be complete without discussing another personal, but ever present issue that most of us encounter as we age, and that is regularity. May as well talk about that one, too.sculpt and cleanse

I’ve needed a bit of assistance in this area for quite awhile now, so the product I’m going to share with you has been a part of my life for several years.

My goal is to use natural products when possible, and Sculpt n’ Cleanse fits the criteria very well. It can also be used for weight loss and to eliminate bloating.

Sculpt n’ Cleanse contains a natural herbal blend of Cascara Sagrada, Senna, Psyllium, Turkey Rhubarb, Slippery Elm, Barberry and Aloe.  I take just one caplet every other day, which is less than the dose allowed, but it works for me at this level.

So if you need a bit of help in this area, check out Sculpt n’ Cleanse

So there you have it. My indispensable essentials for women in midlife, the best health and wellness products I’ve found.

I’m sure there are other challenges I haven’t covered, and a number of products that do a great job helping us to be more comfortable as we age.

What works best for you? Are you willing to share your thoughts on these sometimes sensitive issues? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks!

  • Hi Candi fortunately at the moment I don’t need #1 but I notice that they are designing this type of underwear to be a little more stylish. I’m trying new natural products and just found a great ‘green smoothie’ which my friend gave me to try.
