I know this. My body, imperfect as it may be, is the only one I’ll ever have. It’s not going to last forever and has already served me well for 65 years. I owe it to myself to care for it in a way that will preserve and foster healthy living, each day.

I also know this. Getting older isn’t easy on my body, or yours. Things happen. Our skin changes and becomes thinner and crepey, it wrinkles and droops. Our body shape changes, our muscle mass decreases, our bones become more brittle. We can even get to a point where it’s difficult to stand up straight.

What’s a girl to do? Well, as a proponent of all things natural when it comes to the aging process, I search for the best anti aging skincare products that will help me look and feel my best.

A commitment to eating well and keeping fit is part of the equation, too.

Getting older is work. But, I’m up for the challenge. So let’s look at some of the best anti-aging skincare products available today. Some of the products on the list are those I’ve used so I can provide my unscientific, girl-on-the-street opinion for, including those that are popular and recommended, but for some reason just didn’t do well for me.

There are some anti aging cruelty-free products that are relatively new, and others are budget-friendly and available at your local drugstore or department store.

I’ve included some that are dermatologist recommended, too.

Best Anti-Aging Skincare Products

The following suggestions are readily available at your local drugstore or department store. I’ve included easy-peasy online options here, too, so you can eliminate the trip to the store.

They represent a short list of recommended anti-aging skincare products from some well-known and respected sources. You’ll find that list at the bottom of this post.

Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream

A super-charged daily moisturizer that deeply hydrates to visibly firm skin for a lifted look. Readily available at most department and drug stores, The Olay name is long-standing and trusted in the skin care market.

This is a product I have used more than once, and for some reason my skin just doesn’t respond. There are no negative effects, but no changes in the appearance of my skin.

If your neck and decolletage need attention, this product was designed just for you! It is actually a product I reviewed about a year-and-a-half ago, and my initial response was quite positive.

The Triple Firming Neck Cream from NeoStrata reduces visible signs of aging on the neck and decolletage, firms the look of the skin, targets uneven skin tone, and is oil-free.

Reviews are quite positive at 4.3 out of 5 stars. For me, after about 6 weeks usage I found the product to be quite heavy and thick on my skin. Ultimately I discontinued use. But that is just me. I would not discount the potential of Neo Strata Triple Firming Neck Cream if this is an area you need to work on.

Cruelty-Free Anti Aging Skincare

As I learn more about skincare products, their ingredients, and how testing is handled, I’ve become much more attuned to how a company produces their products.

As such, these companies state that they adhere to anti-cruelty standards, utilize natural ingredients, and are environmentally friendly.

City Beauty

I’ve been using a variety of City Beauty skin care products for about six months, and I have to say that I’m pleased with the results as well as the products themselves.

They specialize in “functional beauty”, which means that all of their products are designed to not only make us look beautiful while we wear them, but provide deeper, anti-aging benefits.

If you are a fan of the TV show Shark Tank, you might be familiar with Proven Skincare. I’m not much for regular TV programming myself. You’ll find me on Netflix or Hulu checking in on cooking competitions or helping detectives solve crimes.

I have to admit that I don’t study the ingredients in products that I purchase, at least not consistently. My little soul is probably too trusting in this area.

So I need to step up my game a bit, and you might find some useful information here as well, when it comes to choosing the best wrinkle cream or anti aging products.

When the product contains PEPTIDES, they are an anti-aging staple that helps to repair skin damage.

If ANTIOXIDANTS are on the ingredient list, such as vitamins C and/or E, they help in the fight against free radicals. Those are pesky, unstable molecules that can do major damage to your cells.

Ingredients such as HYALURONIC ACID, SHEA BUTTER, AND CERAMIDES are present to boost and lock in moisture. This helps to reduce the sometimes irritating effects of other anti-aging ingredients.

RETINOIDS, which are vitamin A derivatives, help to even out skin tone, stimulate collagen production, and promote cell turnover.

Getting the most benefit from your anti-aging creams and serums

There are some actions we can take to ensure that our anti aging skincare products perform their very best for us. Here are a few of the important ones:

• Patience, my friend, patience. We all want to see those ‘visible results’ about 10 minutes after we apply a product for the first time. I’m guilty. It takes more like 12 weeks to actually see results.
• Dark, cool storage is best for products with active ingredients like retinol and vitamin C. It helps to sustain the integrity of the product.
• Exfoliate regularly. If you exfoliate your skin about once a week you’ll be giving those anti aging skincare products the best opportunity to absorb into your skin.
• Layer in the correct order. Unless your regimen specifically states otherwise, apply anti-aging creams after all other skincare, except for your daily sunscreen.

My personal anti aging skincare routine

I’ve used quite a variety of skin care products over the years, particularly in midlife. Some have performed better for me than others, and I think that as my skin has changed I’ve needed to adjust the products accordingly.

At this time in my life, at 65 years old, this regimen works as well as I can anticipate and hope for with a natural approach to aging (no surgeries, fillers, etc. on my little face):

• A commitment to a natural facelift for the last two years has made a definite difference in the overall look of my face. After all, our face is made up of muscles like the rest of our body, so why wouldn’t we want to keep them in tip-top shape?
