Welcome to Coffee with Candi, a time for us to have a chat every week on Friday and catch up.
Well, I’ll have a chat with you about my week…what’s been happening, the good the bad the exciting, the boring…most importantly, what have I learned about life, my family, my friends, work, health, looking my best…I’ll spill it honestly and openly with you. Always with a fresh cup of hot, black coffee in my hand. I think better with java in my paw.

What’s on my mind this week:
Hi, Happy Friday to you! Hope you’ve had a productive, happy and healthy week.
I’m busy working, settling into my new home and life, and am pretty chilly at the moment. It’s going to be an adjustment to get used to this winter weather after 12 years in Southwest Florida. But it’s good to be near the family and have the opportunity to visit regularly as well as give my mom a helping hand. That’s what it’s all about, right?
This week seems to be an appropriate time to talk about our goals of healthy living, including regular exercise. That phrase, ‘regular exercise’ as well as ‘workout’ may have a different interpretation depending on your age, location and health.
I’m going to approach the topic as a woman in midlife, and guess that many of you reading this are in a similar life stage.
There are so many options for working out and maintaining a healthy body! I’ve found several that have been very helpful to me, and they all have a different approach. Perhaps there is a program here that will be just what you’re searching for:
Body Dynamix is a low-impact, joint-friendly workout for people aged 50 and older and people who want to exercise but have mobility problems, injuries or weight issues that make exercise difficult, painful or intimidating. Body Dynamix removes all the barriers to working up a sweat and getting fit, by offering a more pleasant workout experience!
Created by fitness expert Debbie Siebers, Body Dynamix is designed to build up your muscles without breaking down your joints.
There are 7 different low impact workout routine, designed to:
- Strengthen muscles, improve flexibility and mobility.
- Reduce joint pain and injuries.
- Increase metabolism and fat-burning.
- Boost immunity and longevity.
- Promote better circulation and a healthy heart.
- Lead a more energetic, productive life!
You can access these workouts online, or use the DVD’s that are included when you purchase the program. I love the variety of the workouts. They’re not too long, I can choose any combination of them, and they are low impact. Still a great workout, though! Current cost is about $60. Learn more about Body Dynamix
The Ageless Army is a monthly membership program that offers eating plans, recipes and suggestions, workout routines, a private Facebook group and individual assistance from Linda Melone, the founder of the program.
Linda is a fitness pro, a four-time certified trainer with over 20 years of experience. She has written fitness and health articles for hundreds of print and online publications.
I love her workout routines – they are short videos that can be done alone or combined with others. I am learning to combine some material from several workout videos and create my own workout.
This is the first time I have ever used a resistance band to work out and I love it! Linda uses it frequently in her workout videos. So easy to use and it is a wonderful strength builder.
Her workouts combine cardio and strength training – all for women 50+ Current monthly membership fee is about $20. Learn more about the Ageless Army
This is a new workout activity for me, as I’m adjusting to my new home without the ability to walk outside 365 days a year, and stationary bike (I sold it along with all my other stuff when I sold the Florida condo).
I wanted an aerobic activity that was fun, would help burn calories and get my heart rate up, and give me time to decide if I want to purchase a piece of exercise equipment for my new home.
This is a fun, unique way to work out. It is like dancing, but you don’t follow any specific ‘rules’ to the workout. Misty Tripoli, the founder, gives you the basic steps and moves, and then you can interpret them any way you want and have the ability to do.
There is definitely a methodology to what she has you do, it’s not just random moves. But she makes it so much fun, and is very encouraging as we go through the routines.
I was not born with the graceful gene, and although my wonderful late husband taught me to dance with him, I think he was being kind when he told me I was doing well. I’ve always wanted to learn more about dance, try to become a bit more fluid and graceful, if that’s possible, and Body Groove seemed to be a perfect fit for me. Thankfully I’m the only one who witnesses my whirls, twirls, bumps and grinds!
It definitely works up a sweat and gets the heart rate going. I’m just into my first week but I really love it!
You can purchase the DVD collections for about $40 per collection, or, there is the option of streaming video, which I have chosen to do. That is currently about $10 per month. That gives me access to all of her routines/collections for one monthly fee, and they are accessible on so many devices, including Roku on my TV. Learn more about Body Groove
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the benefits of using my Fitbit ALTA, my little buddy that lives on my wrist and tracks all of my physical activities. If you don’t already own a fitness tracker, learn more about why I love my Fitbit ALTA
