Coffee with Candi 10-26-2018

(Last Updated On: May 25, 2019)

Welcome to Coffee with Candi, a time for us to have a chat every week on Friday and catch up.

Well, I’ll have a chat with you about my week…what’s been happening, the good the bad the exciting, the boring…most importantly, what have I learned about life, my family, my friends, work, health, looking my best…I’ll spill it honestly and openly with you. Always with a fresh cup of hot, black coffee in my hand. I think better with java in my paw.

And, I’ll share one special thing that has brightened up my week, so it can potentially make you smile, too. It might be a new gadget, a piece of furniture, a nifty clothing find, a recipe, or something to make your life easier. It’s my gift to you that will keep on giving. 🙂

What’s on my mind this week:

in no particular order…however the thoughts came into my little head

Candi Randolph Inspire My Style

Coffee with Candi Inspire My StyleI’ve had two memorable visits with my kids and grand kids this month, and now that they have both come and gone, it’s time for me to get the house ready to put on the market November 1st.

As a Home Stager I know that showing the intended function of a space is best, so I made a change to my beloved coffee bar, turning it back into a Nook:

But as you can see, I still paid homage to my love of coffee as well as blending some Fall decor into the table top staging. You can see a close up of the vignette in the top photo.

Now it’s on to the cleaning and packing!

Coffee with Candi Inspire My StyleHealthy Food Ideas for Fall – it’s time to take advantage of the seasonal fruits and veggies that can help boost your immunity and feel more energized when the weather is cold.

Here are five healthy choices to help us all stay lean and fit (and warm!), from our friends at Livati/Body Dynamix:

  • Squash – Due to its thick layer, winter squash usually last for months. They’re excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin A.
  • Pumpkin – A great source of potassium, vitamin B and fiber, pumpkins are ideal if you are craving something sweet. Their texture makes them perfect for soups, desserts, and even a hot winter beverage.
  • Cauliflower – Rich in vitamin C and compounds that help prevent cancer, Cauliflowers can be made into different side dishes such as puree that makes them versatile in the kitchen.
  • Dates – This sweet fruit is loaded with fiber and potassium that can help satisfy your sweet tooth.
  • Brussels sprouts – Rich in iron, folate and vitamin K, Brussels sprouts are in-season between the months of September and March.
Keep those healthy fruits and veggies in the forefront of your meal planning as the holidays approach. We all know what can happen when the parties and family gatherings start!
My ‘fitness coach’ Linda Melone just posted about the way we tend to look at holiday eating, starting with Halloween and going right through New Years. She has some excellent tips and thoughts:  How a Halloween Fright Scares off Pounds

One Special Thing – Thanksgiving Decor from Etsy

Thanksgiving decor from Etsy

I don’t know about you, but I always love a handmade item for my home, and I’ve found some really unique and beautiful selections for your Fall and Thanksgiving home from Etsy!

Bamboo Serving Tray – Personalized! It measures 16 1/2″(L) x 9 3/4″(W) x 2 1/2″(H). Bamboo is actually a plant and is also light weight, which is why it can be engraved with a name or phrase. Use it for your own entertaining (or just to display), or, how about a unique and lovely gift?

Velvet Pumpkins – set of 3 – I just love these pumpkins! They make such a beautiful component in a tablescape. The stem is resin, realistic, and very durable. The fabric is soft stretch velvet: one each of Rust, Gold and Olive. This pumpkin measures approx. 6.25″ wide x 3.25″ tall, PLUS the 4.375″ tall stem. NOTE:  There are other color combinations available, so when you click on this link be sure to check out the entire page!

Fall Wreath – a wreath crafted from dried flowers and leaves always draws me in…no plastic here! The soft colors are very soothing and welcoming. The wreath pictured here is about 16″ across but other sizes are available. There are many other hand crafted wreaths offered from this artist, too, to be sure and look around when you click on this link.

Rustic Wood Tree Slice Charger – being a former log home owner, I’m always attracted to unique wood pieces, and this charger caught my eye! These are made from pine and cut with a chainsaw so each is unique. They also craft cake stands of varying designs and levels, so check those out as well.

Remember that these are hand crafted items. There might be some lead time involved, and, sometimes the items are unavailable. So if you see something you love, order it now!

Hello Candi, it is lovely to be back having a coffee catch up with you! Isn’t it wonderful spending time with the grandchildren? I know my two grandsons were the first visit I made when I returned from our trip to Japan. Such a special time for you as I know you don’t live nearby to them. We are preparing to sell my MIL’s home and there is so much to dispose of!!! It can be quite overwhelming so I’ll be following your progress and tips on preparing the house for sale. In Australia we don’t really decorate for the seasons but Fall in the US is my favourite time of year, especially as the leaves put on their colourful show. Thanks also for the healthy eating tips. As the holiday season approaches it can be easy to forget about healthy eating, when there are parties and celebrations to attend. Have a great week and thanks again for the coffee!

So glad you’re back and checking in for coffee, Sue. As hard as it’s going to be to leave my beautiful Sunshine State, I know that being close to my grand kids and family will make the move worthwhile. Have a great week. xo
