Coffee with Candi 10-5-2018

(Last Updated On: October 3, 2018)

Welcome to Coffee with Candi, a time for us to have a chat every week on Friday and catch up.

Well, I’ll have a chat with you about my week…what’s been happening, the good the bad the exciting, the boring…most importantly, what have I learned about life, my family, my friends, work, health, looking my best…I’ll spill it honestly and openly with you. Always with a fresh cup of hot, black coffee in my hand. I think better with java in my paw.

And, I’ll share one special thing that has brightened up my week, so it can potentially make you smile, too. It might be a new gadget, a piece of furniture, a nifty clothing find, a recipe, or something to make your life easier. It’s my gift to you that will keep on giving. 🙂

What’s on my mind this week:

in no particular order…however the thoughts came into my little head

Candi's Kitchen

It’s been a couple of weeks since I had my hair cut in a different style. I’m hoping that as it grows out I’ll like it better. It wasn’t a huge change, but definitely shorter, and my vision for the end result didn’t turn out so well.

Has that ever happened to you? I’ll bet you’re all nodding, “yep!”

My hair is very naturally curly, so the one consistent thing about it is that it’s never the same two days in a row. If your hair is curly you’ll know exactly what I mean. So, some days I think my current style looks pretty good, and other days (like today), I would rather walk past the mirror than look at it.

But you know what? It’s only hair, it doesn’t define who I am, and it will grow. I’m so grateful for that!

sled - holiday farmhouse decorThe quick passing of time must be on my mind lately, because I’ve written a couple of posts about the holidays. A couple of weeks ago I focused on Fall decorating, which is always fun. Cooler air temps (in many parts of the world…not in my neighborhood), falling leaves, beautiful colors, bonfires, apple cider…lots of fun!

My latest post offers some really interesting and unique gift options for the hard to buy for person, or someone who already has, well, everything. I enjoyed doing some research to find gift ideas that are outside the norm. See what you think: Gift Ideas for the person who has everything

Next up will be  Farmhouse Style Christmas holiday decor ideas. It’s such a popular theme that can be incorporated into a number of different decorating styles. You’ll see that post in a few days.

healthy eating phone appOne Special Thing – Phone Apps that can help us stay focused and lead a more balanced life.

Phone apps? Yep. If you find yourself reaching for the cell phone more often that you’d care to admit, maybe an app will help maintain a healthier balance.

Here are a few that I found interesting:

Forest: stay focused, be present – this app helps you stay focused by ‘planting’ a tree when you are going to focus on something other than your phone. You set a time period to stay off the phone and focus on something else, and during that time a tree will grow in the app. If you leave the app, the tree will ‘die’. As you successfully focus your time on other things, trees will continue to grow and eventually you’ll have a ‘forest’.

The really cool thing about using Forest is that you can have real trees planted, by spending the virtual coins you earn in the app. I think that is pretty great! When I checked the site today, there were 318,743 real trees planted in this way.

Wandle will hide notifications if you’re working, sleeping or driving, then bundle and deliver them to you later. It uses your calendar, task manager, other apps and a fitness tracker so make some of the determinations, and you can set up others based on your preferences. Wandle gives you quite a bit of flexibility to customize the way it functions for you.

Space is quite interesting in that it helps you define the type of phone user you are, and then how your time is spent when you’re on it. A personalized plan is created for you, to help you maintain productivity and do things like…oh, say…relax and do nothing for a minute of two. There’s a novel thought. 🙂

There are many other apps available to help us maintain our focus, find our balance and reduce the stress in our lives. Have you tried using a phone app to help you control the amount of time spent on your phone? Tell us about it!
