Welcome to Coffee with Candi, a time for us to have a chat every week on Friday and catch up.

Well, I’ll have a chat with you about my week…what’s been happening, the good the bad the exciting, the boring…most importantly, what have I learned about life, my family, my friends, work, health, looking my best…I’ll spill it honestly and openly with you. Always with a fresh cup of hot, black coffee in my hand. I think better with java in my paw.

And, I’ll share one special thing that has brightened up my week, so it can potentially make you smile, too. It might be a new gadget, a piece of furniture, a nifty clothing find, a recipe, or something to make your life easier. It’s my gift to you that will keep on giving. 🙂

My week has been so-o-o-o busy! How about you? It just seems like the more I get done, the more there is to do. Why is that?? It’s all good, just kind of a frenzy at the moment.

I’ve been working on holiday and seasonal posts, because those special days are right around the corner and we want to be ready:

My Favorite Christmas Decorations from Etsy 1Christmas Decorations for Your Home  (and Gift Giving): I went to Etsy for these curated items because the choices are unique, adorable and handcrafted. Artisan crafted items are a great choice for your home or for gifting, but you have to remember that ordering in plenty of time is really, really important. Some Etsy shop owner only craft a certain amount of a particular item; or, it takes some lead time to create it for you. So don’t wait until the 11th hour and order away from Etsy. PLAN AHEAD!

Winter Wardrobe Must-Haves: As I plan for my relocation from the sub-tropics of SW Florida to the Midwest and Michigan, my thoughts travel to the cold, winter temperatures and my need for climate appropriate separates. So I created a post (of course!) for all of us who need to dress for the weather. You’ll find some awesome curated separates for layering, or not, and as always, very stylish!

Holiday Gift Guide for Coffee Snobs (and coffee lovers): So many of us love our coffee…some to an extreme, like me, but regardless of the strength of the passion, there are so many unique and interesting gift ideas out there for us. If you haven’t already, take a look at some of these ideas from sources like Etsy and Uncommon Goods. I got so excited as I was curating the gift list, I had to order something right then and there!

We’ll want to make sure we are getting our exercise every day, working out and keeping ourselves strong as we age, and as we eat more during the holidays. 🙂

I’ve become acquainted with a blogger who loves to create fitness routines for women. She’s smart, knows her stuff, makes the workouts fun (I didn’t say easy…I said fun), young, tall, slim…some things that I definitely am not! But I love her enthusiasm and want to share her site with you, to give you yet another workout source: Fueled by Coffee and Fitness. Oh look…she loves coffee, too! Coffee with Candi Inspire My StyleAlong those same lines, let’s talk about clean eating for a minute. You know…staying away from processed foods and striving to eat real, whole food like fruits, veggies, whole grains and whole grain products.

Preparing your food at home, in the kitchen, with fresh ingredients (there’s a novel thought!) is a wonderful way to not only eat cleaner food, but enjoy the process of the preparation.

Our friends at have created a list of six processed foods we would do well to prepare at home:

  • Salad Dressing
  • Breakfast Cereal
  • Canned Soup
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Flavored Yogurt
  • Granola/Energy Bars

Of course, they have graciously provided us with a choice of recipes for each! Have a look and see what you can do to eliminate even one processed food from your menu this week: 6 processed foods you can avoid and easily make at home


One Special Thing – Gift Idea – Local Hive Honey

I recently was provided with samples of Local Hive honey, to try for myself and share my thoughts with you. First, I have to say that I love honey. Period. I love the taste, the texture, the natural origin of it, and thoroughly enjoy my morning toast with butter and honey.

So when I was approached about Local Hive natural, raw unfiltered honey from bees in my area, I was intrigued and more than happy to volunteer. 🙂

The honey I received was  from 1) Southeast U.S. and 2) Florida,as that is where I live. The flavor notes of the honey are unique for each location. For example, the Southeast honey includes notes of basswood, brazilian pepper, citrus, clover and goldenrod. The Florida honey includes notes of brazilian pepper, citrus, clover, gallberry and tupelo. Very interesting! And the taste is very authentic. I love it!

Raw, unfiltered honey also offers many health benefits including being rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes and pollen.  Unlike processed unnatural sugars or sweeteners, Local Hive™ honey offers transparency, as each natural varietal is made so local it’s “made right in your own back yard”.

Our friends at Local Hive Honey wanted to share this yummy cookie recipe with you, too:

Local Hive™ Honey Vanilla Sugar Cookies

Makes about 24


½ cup Local Hive™ Honey

2 sticks butter, softened

1 ½ teaspoon vanilla

3/4 cup sugar

3 vanilla beans (1 for frosting)

1 egg plus 1 egg yolk

3 cups flour

1/2 tablespoon cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons baking powder


Beat the sugar and butter on high until fluffy, between 7 – 8 ½ minutes. Scrape beans from 2 vanilla bean pods and set aside. Beat together honey, egg, egg yolk, vanilla beans and extract. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, salt, and baking powder.

Then add in the rest of the beaten ingredients and mix well.

You should have a dough-consistency.

Sprinkle a cutting board or other clean area with powdered sugar. (No flour)

Roll out dough and but into your holiday shapes.

Bake on parchment paper after putting in the freezer for about 6 minutes, so they get more solid.

Bake at 350º for 9-11 minutes and cool on wire rack.


Honey Vanilla Frosting

1/4 cup honey

1/2 cup half and half

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 vanilla bean

4 cups powdered sugar

1 lb. cold butter


Scrape the beans from the vanilla bean pod and set aside.  Beat the honey, vanilla plus vanilla beans and then beat in half of the powdered sugar. Beat in the half and half. Combine this with the powdered sugar and beat until well.

After cutting the cold butter into small pieces, be sure to add it a little bit at a time, mixing on high speed with a whisk attachment or by hand. Beat on high speed for 9 minutes, or until it looks fluffy.

Decorate your holiday cookies and add sprinkles or other edible decorations and enjoy!

  • Great ideas, Candi and I can’t believe Christmas will soon be here! Would you believe I’ve never actually looked at Etsy? The only thing I eat on your list of processed foods is flavoured yogurt which I’ve been thinking about lately because of the sugar content. I will also check out Amanda’s website.       Hi Sue, give Etsy a look, I think you’ll really enjoy all of the handcrafted items. The site is available for many different countries and regions so I’m pretty confident that you have access to it. I am a cereal lover so it’s a hard one for me to let go. I will try something home made as recommended and see how it goes! xo
