Freshen Up! Current Style Trends for You and Your Home

(Last Updated On: November 11, 2020)

Taking a quick spin around Pinterest is a daily thing for me, mostly for business purposes but also to see what is popular and trending at the moment. It’s a peek into the minds and interest of millions of people around the world, predominantly women, and sometimes the results are pretty doggone interesting.

There are some current style trends including fashion ideas, skin care that looks and sounds tasty (not literally of course), and an interesting style in home decor that stopped me in my tracks.

So let’s take a closer look at some new, trending, and upcoming ideas in late 2020 that could be just what you need to freshen up your look, your beautiful skin, and your home!

Jewelry and Accessories

PAPER CLIP JEWELRY: Who would have thought that these humble, curvy, functional pieces of thin, bendable wire would transform into trendy pieces of jewelry?

I gravitate to the more classic, delicate styles of jewelry, and many of the unique paper clip designs from Etsy would definitely suit my taste. But, there are some chunky, statement-type creations available, too.

A necklace and earrings combo could be just what you need to freshen up your holiday, special occasion, or anytime outfit:

PEARL JEWELRY: Always a classic look, pearl jewelry is a current style trend that can be dressed up or down as you wish. At least for me it can!

I treasure the pearl necklace and earrings set that was one of the first gifts given to me by my late husband. I will keep them forever.

And, the birthday gift of a Brighton bracelet and earrings set is another treasured set of versatile jewelry.

You may be familiar with Brighton jewelry, as they have over 180 Brighton Collectible stores, and in more than 4,000 specialty boutiques as well as online. Founded in 1991 by Jerry and Terri Kohl, they went all-in with a passion for creating products from the heart, treating customers as they want to be treated.

Brighton’s designers sketch each creation by hand, then follow it through from conception to fruition. It’s a pretty cool story, concept, and product line.

You’ll find jewelry, handbags, charms, accessories, face masks, footwear, gifts, and more from Brighton. Here is a small sample of the jewelry featuring pearls:

Skin Care

IT”S ALL ABOUT PUMPKIN! Okay, so pumpkin is about more than putting in a pie at Thanksgiving and carving on Halloween. Who knew?

Pumpkin contains vitamin A, C, and E, and antioxidants, which help fight sun damage and wrinkles. It also has fruit enzymes that help naturally exfoliate dead skin cells. Finally, it contains zinc and potassium to combat redness.

I love the scent of fresh pumpkin, and would not mind having that along with the natural benefits on my skin!

Create your own pumpkin mask at home, or try one of the skin care products below that feature the benefits of pumpkin:

Home Decor and Style

GRANDMILLENIAL STYLE: I don’t know about you, but this was a new word as well as decor style for me! What in the world is Grandmillenial style?

current style trends in home decor - Granmillenial style from bhg.com

Our friends at bhg.com are always a reliable source for any home decor trends, and grandmillenial style (say that phrase 3 times fast!) is no exception, with the phrase itself coined by the folks at House Beautiful.

Think of this as ‘granny-chic’, a twist on traditional style, stepping away from the more minimalist furnishings and neutral colors many of us have become accustomed to over the last decade.

Here are the highlights:

  • old school design trends with a fresh twist (skirted tables, floral wallpaper, patterned upholstery)
  • pattern, pattern, pattern (chintz, toile, plaid)
  • embellishments (ruffles, pleats, fringe)
  • heirloom furniture in darker wood finishes (cherry, walnut)
  • selective accessorizing to avoid a cluttered look
  • abstract art and metallic accents to modernize

The key to successful grandmillenial styling is to create a look that is more timeless than antiquated. Use what you love, and strive for layered and cozy but not overdone and chaotic.

It’s not for everyone, of course, but if you love the cozy, patterned feel of the homes of yesteryear, grandmillenial style just might be the next design for your home!

These are just a few of the current style trends that Pinterest highlighted, and of course they change periodically. But perhaps somewhere in this short list of home decor, style, and skin care ideas, the perfect solution to a question or problem is waiting for you!
