Mighty Health Review: Healthy Lifestyle App for Over 50

(Last Updated On: November 12, 2021)

Smart phones are awesome, aren’t they? Well, sometimes they’re a good/bad thing to have around, and they can seem to take on a life of their own, but most of the time smart phones can make our life more efficient and help us stay in touch with family and friends.

When it comes to our health, who knew a smart phone could become such an integral and essential component to an overall plan? We can take the positive aspects of our mobile BFF’s and integrate them into a long-term plan for health and wellness. How cool is that?

Mighty Health is the perfect example of a healthy lifestyle app for women and men over 50 that can provide an ongoing, complete, comprehensive plan including a virtual coach, right at your fingertips!

Mighty Health Review - healthy lifestyle app for over 50

What is Mighty Health?

Mighty Health is an online healthy lifestyle app and program that offers you a virtual personal training and nutrition coach, every single day. It was designed specifically for women and men over 50 and is backed by top doctors and professional fitness trainers.

Co-Founder and CEO James Li started Mighty Health when his dad had to go through emergency heart surgery and struggled to get his health back on track. He realized that many of the healthy lifestyle apps and programs were geared to the under-50 generations, and decided to do something about it. And that is how Mighty Health was “born”.

Who is Mighty Health Designed For?

As women in our 50s and beyond, we know that our bodies have changed, our health needs are unique to our life stage, and our daily living is different than when we were in our 20s, 30s, and 40s.

The developers of Mighty Health understand that uniqueness and created a healthy lifestyle program including coaching and nutrition, that speaks to men and women in their 50s and beyond.

Not only is the program geared toward people in midlife, it is more than just an eating plan, or an exercise guide, or a self-improvement resource. Mighty Health is all-inclusive and addresses each of these areas, to help members achieve their fitness and health goals as well as create a healthy lifestyle that they can take with them as time goes by.

How Can You Benefit from Mighty Health?

Let’s look at the goals of Mighty Health as shown on their website and see how improving these areas of your life would be beneficial:

  • Reduce risk of heart disease
  • Become stronger
  • Decrease stress and anxiety
  • Lose weight
  • Reduce joint pain

Each of the components of the program focuses on one or more of these goals for you as a member.

Can you relate to one, two, or more of these? I do, and I’m guessing that you can, too!

How Does the App Work?

At first glance it seems fairly simple, and to be honest, I didn’t realize how much information was packed into this app.

Two things happened to help me understand how life-changing this program can be:

  1. My coach set up some educational and nutritional learning in my daily plan, so each morning I would see my Mighty Health to-do list. The nutrition, lifestyle, and exercise educational material is presented in a simple way and is not overwhelming to absorb.
  2. As a member of Mighty Health I needed to explore the app, see what was available to me for exercise, education, and join the tracks (series) that I was interested in.
  3. Scheduling the tracks according to my lifestyle was important to me. I could choose which days of the week (including Saturday and Sunday) I wanted to schedule a particular type of workout.

It’s a two-way street, friend.

What Are the Main Focuses of Mighty Health?

To accomplish the goals of the program, there are four core areas of focus that work in tandem, and they include learning tracks that are integrated into a member’s daily schedule.

For example, if you struggle with getting a good night’s sleep, you can join the track on that topic and receive helpful information and advice each day, until you’ve completed that track.

If you feel like you need to repeat a particular track, it’s super easy to go into your member’s area and join again.

  • Health – menopause, holidays, medications
  • Lifestyle – building good habits, sex, support network, exercising, sleep
  • Mental health – loneliness, anxiety, holidays, crises, sleep, stress
  • Nutrition – understanding the color coding eating plan, weight loss

Day-to-Day

When I wake up and start my day, I have made it a habit to check my Daily ‘to do’ list called Your Mighty Day.  including food tracking (evaluated by your coach), education, exercise, and nutrition.

I see what exercise tracks are planned for me today based on my interests and what I’ve joined, my food log (it’s there every day for me to log what I eat and drink), and the educational tracks that I have joined or that my coach has put me into based on my progress with Mighty Health.

One of the simple yet highly effective areas of Mighty Health is their approach to nutrition and healthy eating as part of an ongoing healthy lifestyle. Their color-coded system to knowing which foods to eat regularly, sometimes, and hardly ever (green/yellow/red) is very easy to understand.

How Does Exercise Work with Mighty Health?

There are a wide variety of workouts that are accessed directly through the app and can be cast from your phone onto your TV. This was definitely a learning curve for me…the casting part…but I was able to get it done with an app on my phone that was suggested by a member in the private Facebook group.

I used my phone for the workouts, too, and it was do-able, but casting my phone screen onto the TV just made it so much easier to see everything the instructor was doing.

The workouts offered are all coded as beginner, intermediate, or advanced, so you have an idea of what you’re getting into. But, I wouldn’t shy away from an advanced workout track if you’re interested in giving it a try. Most of the time, the trainer will tell you how to make the move easier or simpler if needed, particularly if you have joint or muscle issues.

Certified trainers conduct these workouts, and typically there are anywhere from five to twelve sessions in a track. Here is a list of what is currently available, with my comments next to the workouts I have experienced.

  • Low impact – this was a great workout and I would recommend it for anyone who is just getting into regular exercise.
  • HIIT
  • Cardio blast – this is a wonderful series for anyone who is just getting into the habit of regular cardio exercise.
  • Indoor cardio at home – this will get your heart pumping, with some of the exercises being quite challenging. I made accommodation when needed
  • Stretches and strengthening for shoulders, back, joints
  • Belly blaster – if you’re serious about the belly fat this will give it a workout!
  • Upper body and core
  • Full body breakthrough – a full body workout with the mature adult in mind. The instructor is very helpful with instruction and the exercises can be modified if needed
  • Total body chair – yes, you do this workout sitting in a chair. And yes, you really do get in a workout!
  • Lower body core
  • Weight training – this is an advanced track, and I have to admit that I can’t do it all, but it’s a great workout and using lighter weights is a key element
  • Yoga for strength – if you’re familiar with yoga, these intermediate tracks might be a great choice

A Multi-Tiered Support System

Making healthy lifestyle changes can be really hard, especially if you’ve grown accustomed to some less-than-healthy habits over the years. Many people find encouragement as well as accountability through support systems.

I was particularly impressed with the various levels of support offered in this program and wanted to be sure they were noted in this Mighty Health review.

As a member, you have three types of support on an ongoing basis, to help you make these positive lifestyle changes become a natural part of your day-to-day life:

  1. Your personal coach
  2. A support group of members that is accessed directly through the app so it is private. There is a moderator assigned to the group also.
  3. A private Facebook group for members.

One consistent thread through the three areas of support is encouragement. Accountability? For sure. But also a lot of support and encouragement from members, to members.

Particularly when it is not possible to go to a facility and meet with other members, it is wonderful to have these options when needed.

Mighty Health and Accountability

As a member of Mighty Health, it’s more than just paying the monthly fee and checking in periodically with some reading and a workout here and there.

Yes, you can choose what you will and won’t do, and yes, you’re a grown up and already have some helpful knowledge about how to live a healthy lifestyle.

So, why then, do we fail to eat a nutritious diet on an ongoing basis? Why do we start and stop exercise programs? Why do we set goals and fail to achieve them, then feel disappointed and discouraged?

It’s easy to say we know what we should do as mature adults, and so much harder to actually do it.

For some, it is a lack of accountability and support. And that is what Mighty Health will do for you. Yes, it’s up to you to open up the app every day, read the material, do the exercises, record your food intake, and communicate with your coach, members, and Facebook support.

It’s up to you to take the feedback and apply it to yourself, knowing that it’s not easy to change habits that have been a part of your life for years. Some days will be harder than others.

But you know what? If you will give it a month or two of commitment, actually go through the material and exercises every day, take the time for yourself, it will become part of your daily routine.

And it is highly likely that you will see results. It’s almost impossible not to if you consistently do what is included in your plan for the day. For me personally, I could tell that my flexibility and strength was improved. And, with a small weight loss goal set, I made progress each week toward it. I won’t complain about that!

So, if you’ve been searching for a healthy lifestyle app for over 50 women (and men), Mighty Health could be the solution that will change your life. Yes, there is a monthly fee, as you would expect for a healthy lifestyle app and program that provides this much information, education, and support.

You can join for free, there is no long-term commitment, and see what it’s all about:
