Petite Ave Personal Shopping Unboxing and Review
If you’re a woman under 5’5″, you already know that shopping for clothes can feel like a never-ending quest. Racks full of dresses that drag on the floor, jeans that need serious hemming, and sleeves that seem to be designed for an orangutan’s arms – it’s enough to make you sigh in the fitting room. While “regular” sizes are abundant, petite fashion for women often seems like an afterthought. As someone who’s been there, I understand how frustrating it can be to piece together outfits that actually flatter a shorter frame.
So imagine my delight when I recently discovered Petite Ave, an online personal shopping service designed specifically for women like us, who are shorter in stature.

Actually, it was Vanessa Youshaei, founder of this shopping service, who reached out to me offering a collaboration. I did my due diligence and spent some time reviewing the website, and realized that this could be a wonderful resource for petite women of all ages, shapes, and sizes.
So Vanessa and I agreed that I would register on the site, go through the process of an online order, receive my pieces, and then provide an honest review.
In this post, I’ll share my experience with Petite Ave as well as explore the kind of styles, colors, and fits that work well for petite women, making it easier to create flattering outfits without endless tailoring or frustration. Please note that while these wardrobe pieces were gifted to me, the opinions I am expressing are my honest evaluation of this service.

Benefits of Petite Ave Personal Shopping
It’s always about the length – the length of the sleeves, the length of the pants – as a petite woman. No matter our dress or pant size, most of us in the petite club don’t have an easy time with standard fitting clothes. If you’re closer to the 5’0″ mark it becomes even more difficult.
For me, the beauty of Petite Ave is they take away the time, frustration, and stress of searching for just the right pieces.
Here’s how:
First, as a potential client you complete a style survey, which I did. It’s quite thorough and asks a variety of questions from measurements to preferences to budget. I was asked to describe the typical outfit I like to wear, as well as one item I would love to have in my wardrobe, possibly something I’ve been searching for. It is wise to be specific and detailed, because your stylist will select the pieces for your shipment based on what you tell them.
For example, let them know about neckline, sleeve length, and top length preferences. If you love/dislike certain type of fabrics or patterns, mention this as well.
After submitting the survey you’ll receive a preview of the pieces selected for your shipment. Not only is it awesome to see what has been selected for you before it’s shipped, it’s an opportunity to provide feedback that may result in changes to the selections.
Case in point: one of the pieces my stylist selected for me was a turtle-neck sweater that was a medium to heavier weight. I don’t wear those types of sweaters and don’t care for turtleneck styles, but I hadn’t mentioned that when completing the survey. My response was a ‘no thanks’ to this piece.
I was asked to give feedback for each of the pieces I was previewing, a thumbs up or down, and why. Although this preview – this extra step in the process – is only offered on the first shipment, the communication and information shared was invaluable for future shipments.
Within a couple of days I received a shipment notification telling me that my first order was on it’s way to me. Yay!
Several days later my package arrived! The best way to convey what I received is through the video I created. You’ll see me ‘unboxing’ each piece. Even though I saw images of the pieces beforehand it was exciting to see, feel, and touch the real thing. Check out the video:
What I Received from Petite Ave
My shipment from Petite Ave included these pieces:
- Black/Ivory print faux wrap blouse
- Button detail cotton sweater in a beautiful wine color
- Plaid 3/4 sleeve top in shades of dark gray
- Dark wash straight leg jeans
- Open front black cardigan
- Belted knit jacket (this was the piece I indicated I was looking for and would love to have in my wardrobe)
I honestly loved everything I received so there was no question about returns. The cost of each piece was included in the delivery, and although these items were gifted to me for this collaboration, I could see that my budget requests were honored.
But, if I should find in a future shipment that I need to return a piece (or more), I have five days from receipt of the shipment to send the items back. There is a postage paid shipping envelope provided for this purpose, so as a customer I don’t incur any shipping fees.
Customers are charged for the items they choose to keep when the 5-day return window closes. And, the $25 styling fee that is charged per order is credited to offset the cost of the items that are kept.
I appreciate the flexibility of the shipping schedule: monthly, every other month, or quarterly. It’s also easy to skip a shipment, too.
Here are the pieces I received, with the exception of the black pants, which came out of my closet 🙂

Here is a top that I would not have selected for myself, but I really love it. The black and ivory subtle floral is so pretty, and faux wrap style is flattering for my figure.

The shawl-collar cardigan is a simple layering piece that completes the look – overall casual – which is what I like!

I love the color (it’s something I wouldn’t have selected for myself), the neckline, button detailing on the sleeves, and the length.

Here is the same outfit with the addition of the belted cardigan jacket. The jacket is very comfortable and has some lovely gathering at the waist in the back.

The jeans I received are a great fit! This doesn’t happen often for me, so I was thrilled. The top is beautiful, with my requested 3/4 sleeves.

I added the black cardigan sweater – it has a shawl collar and is very comfortable.

Styles and Colors That Flatter Petite Women
When it comes to petite fashion for women, it’s all about creating the illusion of length while keeping proportions in check. Here’s what I’ve learned about finding the most flattering pieces that enhance a petite figure. I thought you might find this general guidance helpful.
1. Structured Fits and Tailored Pieces
- Why they work: Tailored pieces, like blazers or fitted jackets, are fantastic for petite women because they create clean lines that define the body. A well-fitted jacket can make all the difference between looking polished and feeling lost in oversized layers.
- Petite style tip: Opt for styles that nip at the waist and have slightly shorter hemlines. These small details add length to your frame and make outfits for short women feel effortlessly chic.
2. High-Waisted Bottoms
- Why they work: High-waisted pants, skirts, and shorts are practically a petite woman’s best friend. They help elongate the lower body, making your legs look longer and giving you a taller appearance overall.
- Petite dressing tip: Pairing high-waisted jeans with a tucked-in top creates a streamlined look that maximizes height. Look for petite style outfits that emphasize vertical lines, as they trick the eye into seeing a longer silhouette.
3. Monochromatic Outfits
- Why they work: Dressing in one color from top to bottom creates a seamless line, which is perfect for petite outfits. Monochromatic looks can be particularly flattering for shorter women, as they avoid breaking up the body and maintain visual length.
- Petite fashion tip: Darker colors like navy, black, and deep green can work wonders, but don’t be afraid to try lighter shades, too. Soft blushes, light grays, or off-whites can create beautiful, flattering outfits for petite women when styled thoughtfully.
4. Vertical Stripes and Patterns
- Why they work: Vertical stripes or patterns guide the eye upward, creating the illusion of height. It’s a classic trick, but it’s one that truly works. Dresses or tops with vertical lines can enhance your petite style by adding visual length.
- Petite dressing tip: If stripes aren’t your thing, look for pieces with subtle vertical details, like buttons or pleats. These small design elements can offer a lengthening effect without being too bold.
5. V-Necks and Scoop Necks
- Why they work: Necklines play a major role in how your torso looks. V-necks and scoop necks open up the chest area, making your neck look longer and giving you a taller appearance. This simple choice can make a huge difference in cute casual outfits for short women or even dressier looks.
- Petite fashion tip: Whether it’s a T-shirt or a flowy dress, try incorporating V-necks into your wardrobe. They help maintain a balanced silhouette, ensuring your look is both stylish and proportionate.
6. Ankle-Length Pants and Cropped Jeans
- Why they work: Forget about the overly long, bunched-up hems! Ankle-length pants or cropped jeans give the illusion of longer legs by stopping right at the ankle—an ideal fit for petite women.
- Petite style tip: Pair these pants with pointed-toe flats or low heels for an elongated look. This combination often becomes one of the best outfits for short women, especially when aiming for both comfort and style.
7. A-Line Dresses and Skirts
- Why they work: A-line dresses and skirts naturally create a balanced silhouette that doesn’t overwhelm a petite frame. The flared shape adds just enough volume to create curves while keeping the focus upward.
- Petite dressing tip: Look for A-line skirts or dresses that hit just above the knee. This length elongates the legs and makes for flattering outfits for petite women.
Finding the perfect petite outfits doesn’t have to be a struggle, especially with brands like Petite Ave that truly get it. By focusing on well-tailored pieces, strategic colors, and the right fits, you can create stylish looks that flatter your shorter frame without compromising comfort or confidence.
