As a woman in my mid 60s I know all-too-well what the aging process does to our skin, not only on our face but our entire body.
My makeup and skin care routine has always been fairly simple and uncomplicated. So, while I don’t have a shelf lined with mature skin care products that I use every day, I have definitely modified my overall routine to take care of my aging skin.
I firmly believe that the time spent exercising the muscles in my face (we workout our body, why not our face?) have made a difference. See what I do.
This is what I currently use:
1 | For daily cleansing and moisturizing, I use PROVEN personalized skin care. It’s been almost two years since I signed up to use Proven and I’m still very satisfied with their products. The products are simple – cleanser, night time moisturizer, day time moisturizer with SPF. 2 | I also have come to love the results with BirchTech Hybrid Overnight Serum/Cream from NOOMI Stockholm after using the product and writing a review about it. I just purchased a new supply of this amazing overnight cream and use it on my clean face and neck in the evening.
It comes from Sweden so it may take a bit longer to receive, but the price is affordable and I love how it keeps my skin feeling firm and also helps with fading age spots and brightening. 3 | Although I’m not as faithful with this routine, I try to use a specific product for my aging eyes. Most recently I’ve been using City Beauty’s Under Eye Recovery. It feels soft and smooth when applied and it’s not greasy.
4| I’ve been trying to be faithful to exfoliating the skin on my face, and have learned that once or twice a week is the right amount for me. The Infused Konjac Sponge from NOOMI Stockholm has worked well for me. 6 | When it comes to makeup I prefer a very light touch, and recently did some research in my quest to find a skin-brightening product to help my dull-looking skin. I tried several and found two that worked for me:
L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream – tinted moisturizer: this budget friendly combination of moisturizer/brightener/skin tint has worked surprisingly well for me. I have it on in the image at the top of this section.
It is not heavy makeup, and that’s exactly what I want. So, it doesn’t necessarily hide all of the flaws but the coverage evens out skin tone, is soft, smooth, and light. And, it really does give my skin a brighter look.
IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Illumination – this is more of a traditional foundation so there is heavier coverage. I don’t like to wear it every day, but when I want more coverage it does a nice job. It also includes SPF 50+ sunscreen, and we know that sun protection is essential at any age.
Pixi H20 Skintint – when I want a little more color but still keep the coverage very light, I always reach for the Pixi H20 Skintint. It’s light and creamy, a water-based tinted face gel, and it lasts all day. It’s one of my favorites!

I know…it seems like a long list of “do this” and “do that”. But, our mature skin is more delicate, thinner, prone to sagging and discoloration as noted earlier. So it’s worth the time and effort to use products that will help our skin become stronger and regain some of that glow we’ve lost with age.

- follow with an anti aging moisturizer
- use an eye cream designed for mature skin
- consider the use of a facial oil periodically
- use a firming cream
- consider using a brightening cream
- always apply sunscreen before heading outside

- don’t forget about the rest of your beautiful body! Use a moisturizing bar soap or cleanser and keep the water warm rather than hot.
- keep your bath or shower to a minimum most days, and if you’re like most women, it’s not necessary to bathe/shower daily.
Lifestyle Choices That will Help Our Aging Skin Glow
You may have already heard this about a million times already, but these lifestyle choices we make every single day affect our overall health and are ultimately reflected on our face.
First, drink water. Every day. More than a sip or two here and there. Drink up to 8 glasses of water daily.
How does drinking water help our aging skin? Well, water essentially keeps our skin cells plump and hydrated, which helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it helps to flush out toxins from our bodies, which can also lead to healthier-looking skin.
Second, get enough sleep! Most people need around 7-8 hours of sleep every night in order to function properly. But did you know that sleep is also essential for keeping our skin looking its best? When we don’t get enough sleep, it shows on our faces in the form of dark circles, puffiness, and an overall tired appearance.
So make sure you’re getting enough shut-eye every night in order to keep your skin looking bright and youthful!
Third, make sure that you include fresh, whole food that is high in antioxidants in your diet, every day. Antioxidants help protect our skin cells from damage caused by free radicals.
And when it comes to getting enough antioxidants in our diet, there are plenty of delicious anti aging superfoods to choose from, like berries, dark leafy greens, nuts, and seeds. So make sure you’re eating a variety of these healthy foods every day to give your skin the best chance at looking its best!
Last but not least, exercise! Exercise is essential for keeping our bodies healthy and strong, and the same goes for our skin. When we exercise, it helps to improve circulation, which in turn helps to bring nutrients and oxygen to our skin cells. And as an added bonus, regular exercise can help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Other Tips for Wise Skin Care in Your 60s
- Be very gentle when you touch your face, neck and body.
- Wash your hands before you wash your face to avoid adding dirt and oil to your skin.
- Don’t forget about your neck! The skin on your neck is just as sensitive as the skin on your face, so be sure to treat it with care.
- Change your pillowcase often to avoid build-up of oil and dirt on your skin.
- Eat well, including foods that are high in antioxidants. This will help to protect your skin from the inside out. Some examples of high antioxidant foods include berries, dark leafy greens, and nuts.
